I was a technical writer for over 15 years. I started substitute teaching in 2010. Afterwards, I taught Special Education for 3 years, at the University level for 5 years, and in various long term substitute positions. I am now seeking an English teaching position or a position that entails organizing programs or departments. I am also available to teach computers to all grade levels.

Teaching Experience

Computer Teacher – September, 2016 – November, 2016 Beyond Technology Education, Archdiocese of San Francisco

Taught 20 K-8 computer classes at 3 schools, focusing on multimedia presentations. The platforms were google classroom, chromebooks, ipads, and macbook pros. Maintained 50 lab computers.

English Teacher – March, 2016 – June, 2016 The Springstone Community High School, Lafayette, CA

Taught 9, 10, 11, and 12 grade English. Our reading included standard works, such as “Romeo and Juliet,” and our writing included essays using the draft/revision process.

Special Education Teacher – September, 2011 – July, 2015 Oakland Unified School District

Taught RSP students, wrote curriculum for Special Education, wrote IEP reports, managed IEP meetings and tested students in academic achievement. I was helpful to parents who were concerned with their students’ progress and helped ameliorate issues regarding Special Education services.

Technical Writing Instructor – September, 2009 – January, 2015 Vancouver Island University

In this ongoing 8-week course, “Manual Writing,” I taught students how to create user manuals. Students ranged from nurses to hot-air balloonists.

I taught online English 2, including analyzing short stories and writing research papers.

Homestay Teacher, Advisor, and Guide – August, 2011 – present

I taught college-level ESL to several students.

Substitute Teacher – Napa, Mt. Diablo, John Swett, Vallejo, Contra Costa, Oakland, and Fairfield School Districts, and the California STAR Program, August 2006 – September, 2011.

Taught all K-12 levels, Special Education, IB, and parolees. Graded High School English Exit Exams.

English Teacher – 11 and 12 grade – March, 2012 – June, 2012 West County Community High School

Developed and presented curriculum on reading and writing, including Shakespeare, Salinger, essays and research papers.

Adjunct Instructor – Remedial English, Literature 2, and Success Workshops
Solano Community College, March, 2007 – December, 2008, and August, 2011 – June, 2012

Created and presented curriculum emphasizing critical thinking skills as fundamental to writing and making positive life decisions. Supervised reading and writing labs, graded content mastery exams. Strategies included using an electronic draft process and teaching with new media, such as Prezi and LiveBinders. As a member of the Solano Technical Advisory Team, I helped update the Technology Plan with a new outline. Became certified in e-College instruction.
