Student Teacher of English, September 2009 – January 2010. College Park High School, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek Intermediate School.

Taught freshman, sophomores, and juniors under the supervision of a master teacher and program adviser. Excellent references available. Special lessons included: business cover letter for Odysseus; iambic pentameter in Shakespeare’s sonnets and blank verse.

Substitute Teacher, August 2006 – December, 2008, Napa, Mt. Diablo, John Swett, and Fairfield School Districts, and the California STAR Program.

Taught all K-12 levels including Special Education and IB, and graded High School Exit Exams.

8th grade Provisional English Teacher (60%), September 2007-June 2008, and ASES Before- and After- School Teacher, March 2008 – June 2008, Vallejo Unified School District.

Taught 2-periods of eighth grade strategic English with one period of prep. Developed lesson plans based on content standards, and successfully managed a difficult class with effective classroom management techniques. Participated in team and district meetings. Helped develop the ASES program, including supervising employees. Assisted students with science projects, class work, and recreational activities. Organized paperwork, and ran the before-school program.

Remedial English and Literature 2 Adjunct Instructor, March 2007 – December 2008, Solano Community Collete and Los Medanos Community College.

Developed and taught curriculum on Hawthorne, Melville, Miller, and other authors. Focused on teaching English grammar for four years. Part of my responsibilities included participating in creating Student Learning Outcomes. I also assisted students with reading and writing lab work, and focused on critical thinking and writing. Classes included use of the computer lab, multi-media and Power Point presentations, and notes on hybrid online course on eCollege.

General Ed Instructor, January 2006 – June 2006, Western Career College.

While staffing was at a minimum, I developed and taught classes in English, Math 1, Algebra, Interpersonal Communication, Psychology, Ethics, and Supervision.

Technical Instructor, 1981-2, Total Technical Institute.

Developed coursework and taught a 6-month introduction class, including the following topics:

  • numbering systems (binary and hexadecimal)

Office Management

Program Assistant, January 2004 – February 2005, Sunny Hills Services, Marin County, CA.

Managed a high school office, including reviewing and maintaining community mental health and school district records, entering student attendance, overseeing employee timesheets, and closing and warehousing records. I monitored funds, created correspondence, maintained office machinery, and coordinated calendars. Proactively addressed students’ needs and supported the therapeutic and educational staffs.

Set up employee health plans, found new office locale, organized company annual meeting and company picnic. Kept office running while employer worked in remote location.

Consultant, Marin Documentation Group, February 2005 – present

  • Curriculum writer for Digital Authoring, Content Management Systems, and virtual worlds for UC Berkeley Extension
  • Created www.kabbalah-dating.com, including SEO marketing, social networking, and newsletter generation. Author of “The Kabbalah-Dating Workbook.”

Digital Imaging Intern, 3- months, 50%, Black Cat Studios, San Rafael, January, 2005

Repaired digital images using Photoshop. Used layers, filters, shading, etc.

Senior Technical Writer, August 2000 – March 2001, eGain Communications

Maintained over 20 enterprise-level documents and online help. Updated documentation for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system involving guis, server, gateways, and databases. Documentation included: installation, users and systems guides for NT and Unix, HTML release notes, overview, reports guide. I updated an API guide. Converted a help system from RoboHelp to WebWorks. Acted as the documentation project lead in staff meetings.

Contract Technical Writer, May 2000 – Feb 2001

Generic Media: Set up technical writing department. Procured RoboHelp, implemented single-source system to generate hard copies, wrote TOCs, glossary, index, and QA test plans; and organized and ran documentation meetings.

QuantumShift: Documented and deployed a Java-based telephone account management system, including: HTML help specs, help system, glossary and style guide, getting started guide. I supervised a junior writer, reviewed Java programs, and worked with QA on bugs found while writing.
